RC-GRO Garden

12 children from the Kilmarnock Montessori School brought 22 tomato plants and 16 pepper plants they raised from seeds to plant in RC-GRO’s garden.

They also helped plant corn and pick fresh greens that went directly to White Stone Baptist Church food pantry.

The children were led by Mrs. Beth Rohne.

Three children plant their tomato plants In RC-GRO Garden, while others pick turnips and mustards.

The Children of Kilmarnock Montessori School came to White Stone United Methodist Church recently to plant tomatoes and peppers they started as seedlings in their class room. Their teacher, Mrs. Beth Rohne, contacted Rev. McClain after learning about RC-GRO, a community garden that was started in order to provide fresh produce to local food banks and the people of Tangier Island. The garden is in its third year and hopes to attract more groups like the Montessori School for hands on lessons and experiences about growing gardens. RC-GRO is committed not only to growing produce but teaching and encouraging the younger generations to do the same, whether it is for themselves or for the community.
